Nuove formazioni politiche hanno ottenuto successi elettorali rilevanti, ottenendo rappresentanza in parlamento e, in alcuni casi, accedendo al governo dei rispettivi paesi. Il boom del M5S che ha ottenuto il 32,3% dei voti divenendo la prima forza politica del paese e accrescendo di quasi 7 punti il risultato del 2013 è un unicum nella storia elettorale europea. Nella tabella 1 abbiamo riportato le performance dei nuovi partiti che al loro esordio elettorale hanno ottenuto i migliori risultati di sempre nella storia dell'Europa occidentale (su un totale di quasi 400 elezioni politiche tenutesi in 20 paesi dal 1945 a oggi).
