Il voto di preferenza: tra meridione, neo-democristiani e intellettuali

Sono passati quasi nove anni dall’approvazione della legge Calderoli. Da allora il voto di preferenza è oggetto di pensosi e più o meno appassionanti dibattiti. La politica sembra dividersi tra chi lo ritiene l’unico baluardo a difesa della democraticità di un sistema elettorale e chi, viceversa, è convinto che si tratti soprattutto della fonte principale del voto di scambio. Senza entrare in questa ormai sterile discussione, possiamo sfruttare l’opportunità offerta dalle elezioni europee per esaminare più da vicino le dimensioni e la distribuzione di questo particolare tipo di voto.

La nazionalizzazione della Lega di Salvini
Dietro al successo di Salvini c’è una sorprendente affermazione al Sud. Per vederlo è già sufficiente scorrere la lista (impressionante) dei 20 comuni in cui Salvini è cresciuto di più (Tabella 1). Sono tutti al Sud. Ovviamente il dato in teoria non sorprenderebbe più di tanto, perché partendo da livelli molto bassi (ma non sempre! vedi Cassano Irpino…) è facile moltiplicare i propri voti. Tuttavia, la performance è comunque notevole, e indicativa della grande crescita della Lega al Sud.

Finland: European Elections in the aftermath of national elections
Introduction
The elections for the European Parliament in Finland took place in the aftermath of the national parliamentary elections that took place on 14 April 2019. In this election, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 17.7% of the votes narrowly edged out the right-wing populist Finns party (PS) with 17.5% in second and the conservative National Coalition Party (KOK) in third with 17.0% of the votes.

Bulgaria: Neither a Protest, nor a European Vote
Over six million voters were eligible to select 17 members of the European Parliament (EP) in Bulgaria under a proportional representation system with preferential voting in a single nation-wide constituency. 318 candidates were nominated by thirteen political parties, eight coalitions and six initiative committees.
